Steak House! (The Musical): Song Number Two
Posted by Trott
First, it was the irresistible underground hit of the year, the theme song from Steak House! (The Musical).
Now, it's time to let the follow-up drop.
The new song is performed by Potato. Potato is, of course, a potato. He has lots of trouble attracting the attention of Steak Sandwich, the sexy au jus heroine of the story. Then, one day, he tries the right shampoo, ends up with sensational hair, and is convinced that everything is going to change for him.
We hope that when Steak House! (The Musical) is produced, the part of the Potato will be played by Adam Duritz. It's not hard to imagine him singing Terrific Hair (Three Words (The Potato's Deliverence)).

While I loved song number one from the Steak House! musical -- and this was real, gut wrenching love -- song number two strikes me as too overtly gimmicky. The first made its point with subtlety, the second with a sledge. C+.
why would you want to terrify a chair?
I disagree entirely with the first comments. This person has no clue what they are talking about. I've produced, oh I don't know, 350 records -- and I can say that this is pure quality.
Please provide an itemized list of 50 of these 350 records. I will shave off my terrific hair and mail it to you if your comment wasn't as flippant it seemed. I suspect, however, that you might just be a Trott sycophant. And I, too, am a Trott sycophant. But this sycophant wants to push him to his fullest potential.
Steak House #1 was art. Steak House #2 was merely cute. Yes, it was listenable. But I certainly haven't listened to it over and over again as I did with #1. The first song did many things - not least viscerally capture a sense of time and place. It was more complex without bragging about its complexity.
Is my third cup of tea talking here or do I detect a Queen influence in this particular number.
Ladies and gentlemen, let us not quarrel over who is the superior sycophant! I love all my sycophants equally!
C+ is a low grade.
I'd say...um....Potato would be a B+/A- kind of song.
It sounds like the potato is saying "yeah, whatever" at the end of the song, which is a clue that we should not judge "Terrific Hair" against the gold standard of the earnest and heartfelt "The Palace Family Steak House Theme Song." I like this much sillier song very much, even if it is not as life-altering as "T.P.F.S.H.T.S." That said, perhaps I am too literal-minded, but I am having trouble imagining a singing potato with hair. I picture Mr. Potato with a toupee.
