The 6-Hi Project: Day Four
Posted by Trott
Trott Day Four Results:
Three women inside the UCSF Library responded positively: One woman said "hi" back, one woman smiled and said "hey," and the third woman said "hi" and then, after a pause, added a "thanks!"
Three women outside the UCSF Library responded not-so-positively: Two completely ignored me and the third, who was waiting in line to order food, looked at me and stepped away as if I had said "excuse me, please" rather than "hi."
Lesson learned: Women inside libraries are friendlier than women outside libraries.
No report yet from Dr. Heather.
Now, a response to comments that have been left about this project: I am not trying to pick up women or even start conversations with them. In fact, I'm not even sure I'm trying to get a positive response. The idea is just to say "hi" to six strangers and document what happens. (Then why do they have to be females that I find attractive? Good point! I lamely rationalize it the following way: That makes it more challenging to say "hi." It's easy to say "hi" to guys or old ladies.)
So, given the purpose of the project, a negative response is actually better than no response at all. No response at all isn't much fun to write or read about. But, yes, I am going for a positive response.

I don't think it counts if you are saying "hi" to co-workers.
