Most Insufferable Band Of The Decade

Posted by Trott

Jon Pareles has dubbed Coldplay "the most insufferable band of the decade" in the New York Times.

I personally have slightly more positive feelings about Coldplay than negative, but that's not the point.

The point is that Pareles has given me an idea for a game.

The rules of the game are simple: You use the comments feature here to announce the band that you think is the most insufferable band of the decade. I read your comments and I am amused by them.

Ready?

Go.

I find String Cheese Incident pretty unpallateable, but then again I have it out for jam bands.

I'm looking at you Widespread Panic.

So many "bands", so little time. Perhaps to sub-categorize:

pomposity/paucity: Wyclef Jean
ambition: Polyphonic Spree
filter what filter: Ryan Adams
producer of the decade (so far): Matt Serletic
best new artist: The Arcade Fire
who's next: The White Stripes
hall of fame: Phish (except "Billy Breathes", but even a pig finds a truffle now and then)

Wow. So difficult. You know, what makes this so bad is that there are a lot of god-awful "musicians" out there, and they're popular, which just makes them file in general, but I think to cross over into "insufferable" they have to actually be pompous and oblivious in the face of their own suckitude.

So, although I hear the Spice Girls are getting back together, and that has to be some kind of sign of impending apocalypse, and, yes, they do have an exaggerated sense of their own importance, I don't think I can really nominate them. Although part of me really, really wants to.

Hmmm.

I'll have to think about this one.

I never listen to insufferable bands long enough to remember them. Also, my sense of time is ruined. What's a decade?

The Streets. English hiphop may be viable, I just have not heard any evidence it.

While there is plenty of competition for this, I'm going with The Black Eyed Peas.
