SF Joy Boy's 40th Birthday Party
Posted by Trott
Although I am in the midst of preparing for my own birthday party, I would be remiss if I failed to mention that 3/5 of PFSH played SF Joy Boy's 40th Birthday Party last week. All proceeds from CD sales went to the Marin County Humane Society where SF Joy Boy adopted his amazing dog, Elsie! I'm sure the $15 we raised through CD sales will last them at least 7 seconds!
We also brought Rhine Wine Cup from The Joy of Cooking to the party. It involved steeping cucumbers in the punch. Which? Rules.

Courtesy of Rocket Culture's drummer Shawn, here's an awesome flyer for the upcoming Mystery Show on March 28. (Click it for the full-sized version.)
And don't forget to listen to Sid Luscious's jingle for the show every single day. It contains a full day's supply of vitamins and minerals!

Check out the awesome jingle that Sid Luscious wrote and recorded for this next show before I had an opportunity to do so!
Did you listen to it? If not, really, go listen to it.
Our next show will be Friday, March 28 in San Francisco. But we're not saying where. Oh no. You will have to check back for that information.
We can tell you that we will be appearing on a bill with Sid Luscious and the Pants. We can also tell you that Rocket Culture will be on the bill.
Furthermore, there will be karaoke.
And, in all probability, nachos.

Project District-By-District Complete!
Posted by Trott
Prior to Saturday, Palace Family Steak House had played shows in nine of San Francisco's eleven supervisorial districts. In order to fulfill my commitment to play a show in each district before the end of the year, I had to play one show in District 4 and one show in District 7.
Fortunately, those districts are adjacent to each other. The north side of Sloat Boulevard is in one district, the south side in the other.
I set up on the median of Sloat Boulevard under the Doggie Diner head and played a song. With one foot in each district, my mission was accomplished!
Video to follow soon...

For The Children
Posted by Trott
We care about our fans. So, after every show, we wash the cases on all the pillows used during the audience pillow fight segment of the show. It's a very loving gesture, but we know that our fans are worth it. They should not settle for less than clean pillow cases at each show!
However, this week, we went the extra step.
At our last show, someone threw a pillow. (Stop doing that! They're not for throwing! They're for whacking your neighbor on the head!) The pillow knocked over a beer, soaking the leg of Tender Few bassist Nicole. I felt bad, but she kind of deserved it as she was probably just there feigning support while trying to dream up scurrilous things to write about Palace Family Steak House on her band's Web site. Of more concern was the fact that a few of the pillows themselves got soaked in beer.
And our next show is at a playground.
Beer-soaked pillows. Playground. We can't have that.
So, we washed the pillows in an industrial washer at a laundromat.
That's right! We did it. And we did it for the children.

Extra-Effort Kid-Friendliness
Posted by Trott
We're playing an afternoon show at the Excelsior Playground (Moscow Ave. & Russia St.) in San Francisco on Saturday, November 17. I've begun making my lyrics safe for 5th graders. I don't have lots of swear words in my songs or anything like that. But I am surprised, now that I have to think about each song, at how much use I make of words like crackhead, Cannibal Corpse, and friggin'.
Here are some preliminary lyric substitution plans.
Original:
Heroin junkie, you don't need to get your fix.
Put away your works and I'll show you where to get your kicks.
I know it sounds crazy, but crackhead you know it's true.
You don't need smack when you got yourself a little au jus.
Modified for child-safety purposes:
Cookie Monster, you don't need to get your snacks.
Put away your Chips Ahoy and I'll show you where to relax.*
I know it sounds crazy, but Muppet, you know it's true.
You don't need Oreos when you got yourself a little au jus.
*Is it cool to use chillax instead of relax or is that completely weak?
Original:
I get suicidal when the 14th rolls around.
Modified for child-safety purposes:
I get kinda restless when recess rolls around.
Original:
Coffee Bear needs coffee now!
Modified for increased child-empathy:
Chocobear needs chocolate now!
Solid Gold JP once had a cover band that played for a bunch of kids, and they realized that a lot of their repertoire wasn't appropriate. They changed Bad Company's "Feel Like Making Love" to "Feel Like Skipping Rope."
Let's just say, don't be surprised if we break out a slightly modified Bad Company cover tune.

District 2 Crisis Averted
Posted by Trott
Yesterday, a crisis was averted! I played a short set of Palace Family Steak House songs at a birthday BBQ for Zeitgeist Rekords honcho Ellard in the Presidio in San Francisco.
The Presidio is located in District 2 of the city. This means that I need not fret anymore about what to do about District 2 when it comes to my District-By-District Project. District 2 crisis averted!
Here's how things now stand in Project District-By-District:
